MidNite Solar 300 VDC lightning arrestor (for off-grid, controler, combiner)

The MidNite Solar 300V DC Surge Protector Device (MNSPD) is a Type 1 device per UL1449 rev3 and has an outdoor rating of 4X for outdoor use. Protection for Classic and other charge controllers, off grid PV combiners and 120/240 VAC circuits.

The MidNite Solar Surge Protective Device (MNSPD) is a Type 1 device designed for indoor and outdoor applications. Engineered for both AC and DC electric systems, it provides protection to service panels, load centers or where the SPD is directly connected to the electronic device requiring protection.

The SPD is offered in three different voltages to maximize the protection level. Protection is achieved by reducing the clamping voltage to a safe level that your system can sustain without damaging any electronics in the system.

The MidNite SPD is a welcome replacement for less sophisticated arrestors that have been the mainstay of the industry for many years.

Due to the growing solar industry, there are numerous listed SPD’s entering the market. These new din rail mount SPD’s, like the MidNite versions, are much better at clamping surges to a safe voltage level than previously available lightning arrestors. Din rail SPD’s are physically small and typically can only provide 1/8th the protection of the MidNite product.

When exposed to transients above their capacity, permanent damage occurs. Din rail SPD’s are always mounted inside of a box such as a PV combiner up on a roof top. When the din rail SPD fails from a near lightning strike, it just quits working. This means that it also quits protecting. Since it is locked away inside of a box, you have no way of knowing it has failed until your next lightning storm! The MidNite SPD’s are mounted on the outside of a PV combiner and have blue LED’s viewable from a distance that show your system is still protected. The MidNite SPD’s are built to last. Each MNSPD is capable of clamping a 115,000 amp surge. In the event that the MNSPD does eventually wear out, they can easily be repaired. No planned obsolescence here.
